Definition
EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport) is the UN standard for EDI, globally adopted since 1987. It defines message syntax and semantics (ORDERS, DESADV, INVOIC, ORDRSP etc.) and is the reference for all B2B communication in retail, automotive, logistics and healthcare. Sector-specific subsets include EANCOM (retail FMCG), ODETTE (automotive), GS1 (global identification).
