A VAN acts as a managed post office for EDI documents, routing messages between trading partners that do not connect directly.
How routing works
Each partner has a mailbox; the network handles delivery, retries and acknowledgements between them.

VANs simplify reach with many partners, while direct AS2 or SFTP links usually cost less at high volume with few partners.
